Authors Bewitch Readers With Halloween Ebook Sale

More than thirty horror authors are coming together this Halloween to offer book lovers a bewitching deal on almost fifty witch-themed ebooks on October 30, 31, & November 1, 2012. Bargain hunting readers will find that a spell has been cast, magically lowering sale prices, which will range from free to $2.99 with the majority of ebooks being sold for 99 cents. The complete list of participating authors and their books featuring witches, warlocks, and other seasonally appropriate creatures is available at WitchyEbooks.Blogspot.com and includes links to the ebooks on retail sites.

Although their books share a similar witchy theme, the cauldron-stirring group of authors has approached the subject many different ways, from frightening to fun and from historical to hysterical. Some authors crossed genres, mixing romantic comedy with their witchcraft while others stuck to traditional hard core horror featuring evil witches. Assorted demons, vampires, ghosts, and zombies appear in various books as well.

The promotional idea originated with author E. L. Sarnoff who was looking for a way to work with other authors to cross-promote witch-themed novels and short stories during the month of October. Other writers immediately responded with enthusiasm and ideas including Vera Nazarian who summed up what many in the group felt when she said, "We are gonna rock Halloween!"

Author Alex Owens offered the use of her blog address, WitchyEbooks.Blogspot.com, which thanks to the fact that she gets "goose-pimply with excitement over anything and everything paranormal" she had already dedicated to "featuring all the Fantabulously Freaky witch books" that she could find.  Writer Cate Dean took the lead in compiling all the evolving information on each author's books including, title, link, blurb, and sale price.

So what are you waiting for?

Head on over to WitchyEbooks and fill your Cackling-and-broom-riding-quota and then some!

A Cool Way to Help Libraries in Need

While hanging out in the KindleBoard's Writer's Forum (my, that was a mouthful) I stumbled over a discussion thread talking about a website called Fill The Shelves. It was started by a group of authors, many prolific-- so who knows how they had the time to conceive this idea, and then follow through. So far, the charitable group is off to a fabulous start! Check it out, and if you have the funds, do a little to help a library so desperately in need too.

Filltheshelves.org

I get on my children all the time about reading. Once of my greatest disappointments in life so far has been that my own offspring don't seem to have the addiction to books that I did as a child (and still do.) I know how instrumental reading/ books have been in my life, so it saddens me to think that some libraries are so bare.

That a child will walk away empty handed and unfulfilled.

That another life-long reader will be lost because of budgetary cutbacks.

On A Reading Roll!

I don't know if it's my innate ability to procrastinate, or if I'm really trying to avoid making the tough decisions for Book 2 of the Blood Chord Series, but I've read... no, devoured, a slew of books lately. So I thought I'd share what has been occupying my brain the last week or so.

Demon Hunter and Baby Demon Hunter and Baby by Anna Elliott

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Good, interesting paranormal premise and plot. Plenty of action and enough inner "Mom" turmoil to make me feel connected to the story and characters. Will read more from Elliot in the future :-)

True of Blood (Witch Fairy #1)True of Blood by Bonnie Lamer

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved this book! The magic and her "parental units" situation was unique and well done. There was enough romance to make it more compelling, but nothing I'd worry about my teen daughter reading. I particularly love the bits where the main character is try to learn how to control her magic. Part witchy-magic and part fairy-magic (there is a difference, it seems)this book would be a good choice for snuggling up with by the fire!

Illicit Magic (Stella Mayweather #1)Illicit Magic by Camilla Chafer

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This book started off a little wobbly for me. It wasn't the pacing (because a lot happened in the beginning) so I'm thinking it was the amount of backstory woven into the start of the novel.

But after I pressed on, things certainly got more interesting and I'm glad I did read it to completion. The "magic" was neat, and I found the training parts interesting and nicely done. The romance factor during the second half of the book was very nicely done. There is a bit of a cliffhanger ending, but it's not so abrupt as to leave a sour taste in your mouth. Just makes you want to read the next one!
